I recently finished my NetGalley copy of Alison Weir's fabulous new novel JANE SEYMOUR: THE HAUNTED QUEEN. Wow, what a fantastic story. I've always thought of Jane Seymour as a mousy, quiet woman. A woman who was the antithesis of Anne Boleyn. The calm after the storm. Well, this book throws all my preconceived ideas out the window. I have no doubt she was the calm after the storm that was Anne Boleyn, but she was no shrinking violet, either. The Jane Seymour portrayed by Alison Weir (one of THE BEST historical novelist I've ever read), is a calm, but highly intelligent young woman. One who happened to catch the eye of Henry. The only woman who was able to give him the son and heir he required and craved. She was full of life and joy, but the title tells it all. She was haunted. We have all heard of the fabled perfect being, the Greek God.
Well, how about a geek god? Named Bernie, yet.
Fresh with his diploma from God School, determined but unsure, bright but without confidence, Bernie faces the challenge of building his own universe. If only it were that easy...
An old school rival will do whatever it takes to ensure Bernie's failure, even if it means destroying his world.
It’s god vs. god, guile vs. goodness, where only one of them plays by the rules. Bernie must find a way to outwit his evil foe. If he fails, it will cost him everything.
A fascinating tale of good vs. evil and a young hero on a journey of self-discovery in an original, humorous, fantastic wrapper.
my thoughts:
Unique and fun. Bernie is a wonderful character. I loved him from the beginning. I couldn't put this book down! Hooked from the very beginning.
There is a good vs bad storyline, Bernie comes up against Billy. Billy holds a grudge against Bernie and is just a rotten apple. Bernie is a geek and a bit of an underdog. Everyone loves the underdog.
Bernie is even more likable because he's unaware of just how good a character he is.
Mr. LeBel did a great job of explaining the universe and the young gods' role in creation.
This is a unique story. Hopefully the start of many. Well done Mr. LeBel!
